Although you can certainly benefit from attending just a few sessions, the typical treatment length is between 10 - 20 sessions depending on severity of issues. It has taken you a long time to develop negative interaction patterns, and you will have to relearn ways to connect that will at first seem hard to implement. Therapy often serves as a safe space where both of you can feel freer to communicate thoughts and feelings than you might feel when you are simply by yourselves. It will take time to apply what you learn in therapy to your own lives and will take practice and feedback before you fully master the art of relating taught to you in the sessions.
